The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Department of Ancient History of the University of Heidelberg, and the Commission for Ancient History and Epigraphy of the German Archaeological Institute are inviting applications for Epigraphic Spring Academy for PhD students Rhodes from 11th to 22nd April 2018.

Tender for a

Epigraphic Spring Academy

in Rhodes, 11.-22. 4th 2018

The international academy is aimed at doctoral students in the field of Ancient History and the neighboring fields of Ancient History and History. It aims to deepen the competences of young scientists in Greek epigraphy. In addition to the work in the museum and at the excavation sites in Rhodes Town, excursions to Lindos, Kamiros and Ialysos are planned.

A detailed program of the event (with a list of topics for presentations) will be sent to the participants on time. Own topic suggestions of the applicants are welcome.

Arrival day is Wednesday, April 11, 2018; Departure day is Sunday, April 22, 2018. Arrival and departure location is Rhodes .

Management and implementation: Klaus Hallof (BBAW / Inscription Graecae, Berlin), Christof Schuler (Commission for Ancient History and Epigraphy of the DAI, Munich); Vasiliki Barlou (University of Giessen).

Applicants are expected to have a good knowledge of Greek, as well as a basic knowledge of epigraphy (usually through proof of participation in a relevant university course). The language of instruction is usually German (but possibly also English). The number of participants is limited to 12.

The travel costs will be granted a subsidy; The accommodation and travel costs of the participants on site will be covered by the organizers.

Applications (including curriculum vitae, diplomas, proof of completed seminars or exercises with epigraphic content, information on areas of interest and a brief sketch of the dissertation project) should be submitted by 25 February 2018 (preferably by e-mailand with the documents in a PDF) :
